We really shouldn’t be eating anything that will add to our weight. No, we wish to be smaller and not to grow. However, the question remains, are scones fattening? READ ON. I will list all that a person needs to be aware of OK?

Are Scones Fattening? Here’s The Thing

Firstly, I will start by saying this. Most shop-bought scones contain no nutritional value at all. They are what you can call empty calories. That means, although they fill you up and are grand tasting, they offer nothing else.

Let me tell you what that means. With the number of calories you are eating, well, this would not be so bad if you were receiving some nutritional benefit from them. In other words, vitamins, and so on. But you will not be. You will be receiving a tiny amount, hence the word EMPTY.

The necessary ingredients of scones are these –

  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Flour
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Buttermilk

Whatever you do, don’t think just because you buy a fancier scone from a store it will be better quality. The ingredients may be of better quality than some of the other cheaper brands. However, the additives that it has will add to its calorific value.

Are Scones Bad For You? Are They Fattening?

What I say seems fair enough, I know, but are scones bad for you? Well, you must take for a quick example,  a cranberry and orange scone which you can purchase at the trendy “coffee house” Starbucks. Well, this “lovely snack” has no fewer than 490 calories. In case you were wondering, that is a lot.

Yes, you read that right, a massive 490 calories. And to make matters much worse, one-third of these calories come from the fats that are in it — over 160 calories of fat.

Now, admittedly, it does not take a smart person to work out. It is a fantastic food to eat taste-wise. However, if one is trying to diet, stay away from them, the scone is a definite NO-NO.

And, to add to the wrong things to say about just how nasty they are for you, We shall add some more awful news. This fat, yes, the one which contains over one-third of the calories, oh you must read on now.

Well, wait for it. YES, it is the worst kind of fat that we can consume at any time, diet, or no diet. Therefore, are scones fattening, well, YES!

Learn about good fats vs bad fats, you will be able to understand some of the good fats and bad fats. And, the fats in store-bought scones include the last type. Yes, the bad fats.

My Advice

So my advice, well, what I would without question suggest for you to do. That is to make your own, as that way you will know WHAT ingredients it contains.  Then you won’t have to be like I used to be and ask Why am I fat?

As for the color of store-bought scone, It is because the people who will make it use white flour. They will bleach it, often with nasty chemicals. Which, let us face it, we do not want. BUT we should be aware of as the typical person knows nothing of this at all.

Are Scones Good For You? Well, No

So now then, are scones good for you? No, as the point that I am getting at throughout the whole post is this, are scones fattening? Well, indeed, yes they are and no they are not suitable for you. At least, the store or coffee shop ones aren’t.

If you feel like TREATING yourself, please make sure that you find a good, healthy and above all TRADITIONAL RECIPE. And make your own so that you can keep an eye on precisely what it is you are eating.

Scones, You Should Not Eat Them On A Diet

You see, once you have got your diet under control. Then, all that you need to have is the other half of the solution. That is for your weight loss attempt to be a success. I am, of course talking about the exercise.
