Cotton Ball Diet Pros & Cons – And Other Fad Diets

We discuss the cotton ball diet pros & cons and other fad diets that you should avoid due to their extreme side effect and harmful health effects.

We need to be on the lookout for fad diets to avoid including the cotton ball diet pros & cons. That is because we should all practice healthy eating, all of the time.

Every new year, 45 million Americans resolve to eat healthier and go on a diet as their New Years Resolution. That is also why advertisements for diet fads tend to be everywhere that time of year.

However, I am all too aware it is not only then, but all year round.

Why You Should Avoid Fad Diets

Each one of them that promises you that it will help you to lose X LBS in X amount of time is so wrong. It promises you something that will have no guarantee.

After all, we are entirely different, with different metabolic rates.

Only gradual, sustainable methods are worth taking into account. NOT FAD DIETS.  Like the fad cotton ball diet pros & cons you will find it’s much riskier than rewarding.

Another thing to look out for is using scare tactics. If they claim that you’re harming yourself because of X and only X will help you, then steer clear.

List Of 16 Fad Diets To Possibly Avoid

It may seem like a new diet fad pops up just about every single day. They promise to help you shed a few pounds quickly and to help curve your hunger at the same time.

However, not all fad diets are the same. Some of them can do more harm than good. Try looking at some that ARE NOT FADS.

So, if you’re looking to lose weight for the next holiday season, be sure to avoid some of these dangerous diet trends. Many people are taking part in the Cabbage Soup Diet.

Pros:

It allows you to eat as much cabbage soup as you want and still lose weight. Carry on reading and learn why this is one of the diets you should avoid.

Cons:

However, the American Heart Association says that the diet is ineffective and generates numerous adverse side effects. Cabbage is known to cause gas, bloating, and abdominal pain that can worsen the more that you eat it.

The diet also severely reduces calorie reduction and provides no essential nutrients such as fat or protein. That can lead to exhaustion, hunger, and fatigue.

In fact, according to the Weight-Control Information Network, the Cabbage Diet generally means to eat less than 800 calories a day.

That has an association with irregular heart rhythms and can be fatal if you have a history of heart disease. So, in all honesty, this is why it is on the list of fad diets to avoid.

If you are going to do a single-food diet such as the soup diet, you will want to be sure that you’re taking the right type of supplements.

Be sure that you are getting all the nutrition you need and that the supplements are toxin-free. (3) Again, carry on reading to learn about more fad diets to avoid.

The Military Diet is growing in popularity because of its connection to the armed forces. According to the diet’s sources, it’s the diet that the military uses to get its soldiers into shape quickly.

However, the truth is that the diet has no association with the military or any government institution and is dangerous and unhealthy. It will also claim to help you lose up to 10 pounds in a week.

That is by following a 3-day meal plan, followed by four days off.

For 3-days your calorie intake is about 1,100 to 1,400 calories a day, and then the remainder of the week, you can eat what you want as long as you maintain a low-calorie intake.

More Disadvantages Of The Military Diet

The problem is that the diet is hard to sustain when you have so many days of break, and can also create a sense of yo-yo dieting.

The low-calorie count can also put your body into starvation mode, which slows down your metabolism, and you’ll end up packing more pounds after your diet.

The Cotton Ball Diet Pros & Cons

Although this diet says danger all over it, many people still follow the trend.

The diet involves substituting a meal with five cotton balls dipped in orange juice, lemonade, or a smoothie to help you feel full.

However, cotton balls are full of dangerous chemicals that will hurt your body and severely obstruct your intestinal tract. Eating them can be life-threatening.

You should go here to see some proper cheap weight loss programs that work.  Remember the cotton ball diet pros & cons that the risk and side effects are far worst than the reward.

Why It May Not Work

Also, you’ll not get the proper nutrients you need to have. It can lead to health problems further on down the road. Remember, not all diets are equal; some are fad diets to avoid undoubtedly.

So, before you start your next diet, be sure to do as much research as you can. Oh, and don’t forget, you should also always ask your doctor before changing your typical dietary routine.

The Cotton Ball Diet Spells Danger

Heather Dubrow, of TV’s The Real Housewives Of Orange County fame, created this diet with her husband, Terry. Terry is none other than an M.D. He too is a TV “Star” of the show Botched.

The pair say that the diet has a lot to do with new science and will assure you of metabolic control. “That is great,” you may be thinking, an excellent weight loss diet. However, keep reading further.

In short, the diet is nothing more than intermittent fasting. Although there is no calorie counting, there is a lot of time-restricted fasting.

Cons:

My advice to you would be this. Be careful with this diet as it will rely on fasting. Fasting, in theory, should work fine. However, there has not been an enormous amount of studies on intermittent fast.

In other words, In theory it could work but fasting isn’t a healthy way to lose weight so keep that in mind.

This diet follows the eating pattern of a snake as the title of it would suggest. I’m afraid that it is intermittent fasting as well.

It will mimic the diet of a snake in times when food is scarce. Now listen, this cannot be healthy, not when you do it regularly.

The reason being, the restrictive nature of it will have you fasting for a long 22 hours of each day, with only a 2-hour window for eating. However, it does suggest that you only drink a liquid during the fasting period.

It goes by the name of SNAKE JUICE. The ingredients of the drink are as follows –

Food standard Epsom salt, potassium chloride, Himalayan pink salt, water, and also some baking soda.

Cons:

I fear that you will be throwing away your money if you  buy into this. Why? Because as I am saying, regularly fasting for 22-hours could very well lead to deficiencies in particular nutrients.

“But that is what the drink is for” I hear you cry. You would be right in THINKING that, however, it is in no way good enough. It could possibly help lose weight however, it isn’t a healthy weight loss.  With a healthy weight loss you should feel good and not starve yourself of energy and nutrients.

The Carnivore Diet is growing in its popularity these days. It will focus mostly on eating a lot of meat. The diet will, therefore, be high in saturates.

Also, there is no doubt that you will find many testimonials online about its success. But, is it safe?

Cons:

Because the whole plan centers around foods that are high in saturates, it is unhealthy. So, if you are thinking of starting it, read this next line very carefully. Saturates are bad for cholesterol, and you do NOT WANT HIGH CHOLESTEROL.

Pros:

Whole 30 appears on the face of it to be the right choice. You eat whole foods, what can be wrong with that, you ask? Well, in theory, it is an excellent concept.

However, the plan forbids you to eat certain foods that, ideally, you will need to eat. It prohibits you from eating a product with added sugar. That makes total sense.

Eating whole foods can lead to weight loss and also an improvement in your sleep. As well as some other health benefits, of course.

Cons:

However, it will say that you shouldn’t include, for example, some grains, legumes and also dairy products. Now, granted, those are not essential for the body.

However, some people will no doubt find that it is a step too far not to allow those. It definetely isn’t as bad as most fad diets but does it work?

Whole30, Good Or Bad? You Decide

Whole30, Good Or Bad? You Decide

Pros:

Again, it is becoming ever-more popular. However, you can do this daily, but does it help with weight loss? Now, listen carefully to the next sentence and take note.

Why it might not be a good fit:

Although there have been a few studies as to the benefits of including apple cider vinegar to your diet. There is also studies proven that it does help with weight loss but how much?

However, isn’t a terrible idea if it helps even a little bit, that’s if you can stand to consume it.  Read more about the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet.

HCG is a hormone that women produce during pregnancy. It stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. However, of late, it is becoming increasingly popular as an aid to weight loss. (In supplement form.) It, yet, has many reports of it being a danger to our health.

Cons:

To say it so that it is understood, the supplement HCG has a lack of research. As well as this, the calories that you have while participating in it are DANGEROUSLY LOW.

With so few calories, you risk a whole lot of dangerous side effects. These could include fatigue, blood clots, and also other serious health problems. So, is this one of the fad diets to avoid? Yes, it is because it is dangerous.

If you want to follow a strict set of rules, then this may be for you? Some people who use it report losing 10 lbs in their first week.

Now, seeing as a healthy weight loss should be around 2.5 lbs a week, it had me questioning what this one was all about.

Of course, as with a lot of diets, it will have phases. Now, the first phase goes by the name of the “ATTACK” phase. (Yes, the one where you, reportedly, can lose 10 lbs.)

During this phase, it will encourage you to eat as much protein as you possibly can. (Dukan Diet Official)

If you arrive at the final stage, when you have read that article, you will then know what you are supposed to do.

Cons:

Is this one of my fad diets to avoid? Yes, purely for the reasons that will follow. It does no favors for the kidneys. And if you suffer from bad ones, then it is not for you.

However, a more common negative is that you could develop nutritional deficiencies. Those are things that we do not want.

The Alkaline diet, again, sounds great in theory. However, in practice, not so.

The human body has a design to keep the bodies ph level between 7.35 – 7.45, and people who will do this plan will follow a low-acid and alkaline way of life. That way, you will always be keeping your PH in check. Or Not!

Cons:

Unfortunately, although you can have a slight change to the PH of your urine, you CANNOT CHANGE THE PH OF YOUR BLOOD. It is your kidney’s job to do this while dealing with waste.

So, you could say, “Why should I start to restrict me, for what?” And that’s my point. There is none.

The Keto diet may or may not be worth it. However, I’ll allow you to decide if it’s one of the many fad diets to avoid. Because it is a fact that eating a lower number of carbs can lead to a smaller number of Triglycerides in your blood.

These are nothing more than fat molecules in the blood. That could be good for weight loss.

Possible Cons:

Before it became very popular as a diet trend, it was initially for treating people who would have epilepsy. It will suggest that a massive 75% of your calorie intake should come from fat. That is why it has the nickname the “Bacon and butter diet.”

Before you are “Into” the Keto diet, you should prepare for possible stomach issues. Irregularity if you like. There are several potential side effects of the keto diet, not least, the difficulty you may face when eating out of the house.

That is because many places do not cater for keto, which will take you off your ketosis. Thus, it makes it hard to stay successful.

As the name would suggest, it is part Paleo and part vegan. Well, now, it will want you to eat more fruits and vegetables. That can only be a good thing as most of us do not eat enough anyway.

They help to fight diseases and also provide the body with some fiber. It will also suggest that you only eat healthy fats, the likes of which are in nuts, seeds and especially fish.

Why It May Not Work:

There are BIG restrictions on legumes, beans, lentils, and also chickpeas. That is a super disappointment for me. Why? Because those foods I mention are full of healthy nutrients.

So, don’t get me wrong; there are several positives to this plan. However, would I call it one of my fad diets to avoid? Maybe, I would.  That is because of the restrictions it will place on you.

Paleo Diet

We will also call this the “Caveman diet.” As the name would suggest, it encourages us to eat like our hunter-gatherer ancestors. Now, you may wonder, “I’ve never seen a fat caveman?” And you’d be right there.

Unquestionably free of processed foods and eating a lot of grains will be the way to go?

Why It May Not Work

Well, despite appearing to be a simple to follow, with the massive number of foods available, there are restrictions. And, what makes this one of the fad diets to avoid is because it is so strict, many people will not be able to follow it. That could very well be your issue too?

Five Bite Diet

I have left this one until last, as I have never heard of anything so ridiculous. I look at this as spectacular that people even attempt this. I mean, seriously, come on.

It suggests that you skip your breakfast (Crucial meal) And only have five bites of food per meal. It is pure nonsense.

Why It May Not Work

As others have said on different websites, “It is an eating disorder waiting to happen.” Enough said, I think.
